Bertie Lou’s Café

Today I visited Bertie Lou’s in Sellwood on SE 17th and Spokane for their cinnamon roll! I cannot believe I’ve lived in Portland for most of my life and have never been to Bertie Lou’s! I was instantly in love with this place when I walked in- you enter basically into the kitchen with a small counter seating area and the chef and woman at the counter started chatting with me immediately. They were SO incredibly nice and funny and made me really want to come back here for breakfast. And I was so glad that I liked the cinnamon roll as much as the staff. This roll is sans frosting- but plenty sweet. It also came with an orange wedge (amazing) which I squeezed over the top before diving in, and finding an abundance of raisins! I’m one of the (rare?) people who likes raisins in their pastries, and this cinnamon roll was brimming. The bread was gooey and covered in a very caramel-y cinnamonny goo and I slopped up every bite. It was hard to find a drawback to this one, but I know that the raisins might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Favorite part: The orange flavor mixed with the caramel and raisins!!

Least favorite part: Ummmmmm
