Woodlawn Coffee & Pastry

Today I visited Woodlawn Coffee on NE Dekum and 8th for their cinnamon roll! I’ve really been looking forward to getting this one for the website- as it’s one of my favorites in town! This is also the 28th (!!!) cinnamon roll I’ve eaten and reviewed in the last few months for this site, and I was curious how my old fave would stack-up, now that I’ve basically turned into a giant cinnamon roll myself. I was there by 9am this morning and nabbed the very last cinnamon roll they had. This roll was less gooey and crazy than my memory of it, but it truly is top-notch. The bread alone is excellent, and baked to perfection; moist but dark brown on the outside and with great flavor. The frosting was also excellent; cream cheese based and not too sweet. The only drawback for me was that the cinnamon flavor was in the backseat and I could have used more spicy gooeyness in the center. Woodlawn makes fantastic pastries, and this one ranks up with the best of them!

Favorite part: The bread had a wonderful, rich flavor.

Least favorite part: I would have liked more of the cinnamon sugary throughout.
