Crema Coffee + Bakery

This morning I visited Crema Coffee + Bakery on SE 28th and Ankeny.

This roll looked mouthwatering, with a very nice (and yummy!) caramelized glaze on the outside. They were clearly aiming to master the classic; cream-cheese-frosting cinnamon roll, and I have to say it was … just ok.

The first words out of my wife’s mouth were - “it’s really dry", and it’s true. Crema opens every day at 6:30, I was there at about 6:45- and the roll was cold and clearly from the day before. I would prefer about 1/3 of the frosting, and the bread wasn’t flakey or gooey, just a bit hard and bland.

That said- it was still quite tasty, and I ate my cinnamon roll plus the half my wife didn’t eat! Crema uses great ingredients and I liked that it wasn’t too sweet!

Favorite part: the outer glaze- delish!!

Least favorite part: once I reached the coveted “heart” of the cinnamon roll, it was just blah
